Another interesting and highly effective way of robot locomotion is demonstrated by Chaos from Autonomous Solutions ...

What form the ultimate home, office or garden robot should take has yet to be decided, but maybe it will look something like this.

The Chaos design combines the both tracks and limbs. The tracks would allow the robot to move up and down stairs, or the limb-like extensions allow it to adopt a coffee-table like form.

One missing component from this design would be inertial sensing to allow the robot to balance on two of its limbs (like a segway), so that the other pair of limbs might be used to carry an object such as a drinks tray.

"carry an object such as a drinks tray"? ... you've got my attention, bob!! ;)
having this bot balance on two of his limbs would (come time - will) sure be a mind-boggling sight ...
